The design of Maribor Island

Year of construction: 2008

With its current design, Maribor Island functions as a swimming area during summer months, and is thus unavailable to other visitors during this time. The solution represents a spatial design that creates an “island on an island” for swimmers and visitors alike, with all the qualities that otherwise already exist on the island, specifically, biodiversity, proximity to water and as a functional facility. The spatial form of future interventions is based on the emotions evoked by the area in question itself. Surroundings on the left and right banks of the Drava follow the linear shape and terrain configuration, the circular form of the platform is an extension of the spatial expression of the glade, which already exists at the location in question.
